Sensory Friendly Nights

Sensory Friendly Nights offer families a calm, welcoming way to explore the Children’s Museum of Richmond after hours. During these evenings, the Museum adjusts lighting and sound levels, reduces crowds, and creates a predictable, supportive environment so children and caregivers can focus on play, curiosity, and connection at their own pace.

These nights reflect our belief that play should be accessible for every child.

What Families Can Expect

During Sensory Friendly Nights, the Museum experience is thoughtfully adapted to support comfort and confidence:

  • Lowered lighting and reduced background noise throughout the Museum
  • Limited capacity for a less crowded, more relaxed environment
  • Quiet areas and sensory supports available for breaks when needed
  • Museum educators and staff trained to support inclusive play experiences

Sensory Friendly Nights are a natural extension of CMoR’s mission to inspire growth in all children by engaging families in learning through play. These evenings are available on the third Friday of the month from 5:00-7:00 pm, typically alternating between both Museum locations. Pre-registration is not required. Families can check-in at the front desk upon arrival.
