The Children’s Book Bank exists to put as many books as possible into the hands and lives of children in need.
By providing opportunities for children to read and be read to, the Book Bank program supports school readiness and literacy development in children.
- An important study shows the most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print.
- In middle-income neighborhoods the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1; in low-income neighborhoods the ratio is a staggering 1 (age appropriate) book for every 300 children
While the Children’s Museum is closed during COVID-19 precautions book donations are not able to be received at our four locations.
If you are in the Richmond area, please drop off your new and like new children’s books at your neighborhood YMCA. Just look for the Children’s Museum Book Bank bin!
If you or someone you know is in need of age-appropriate books for kids please use the “Request Books” form below and someone from our team will get back to you shortly. We are still distributing books while our doors are closed.
