Each year, the Children’s Museum of Richmond offers a college scholarship for a high school junior who most exemplifies the character of CMoR’s Snow Ambassador. The Snow Ambassador should demonstrate creativity and act as a role model for all children, regardless of their age, ability, or background.

This year, we are incredibly proud to present, Jackie Branch, as our 2023 Snow Ambassador. Jackie is a high school junior at Monacan High School and the Associate Board Nominating Committee was so impressed with her during the application and interview process. In her application, Jackie highlighted her role as her varsity volleyball team’s co-captain, her volunteer service with Jack & Jill of America, her participation on school clubs like the Yearbook Committee, Monacan RAMPS, and Young Democrats, as well as her achievements as a student and leader in her community.

When we asked Jackie Branch why she should be selected as the 2023 Snow Ambassador, she shared:

“Being the Snow Ambassador would allow me to share how the Children’s Museum gave me a great foundation to learn about different cultures through play and sparked my creativity as a little kid.  Sharing my personal experience would make my representation authentic and inspire other children of color and their families to see the Children’s Museum as a safe space to play and grow consistent with the mission of the museum. Additionally, I have successfully balanced academics, my volleyball life, and community service in various areas.  It would be an honor to serve the Richmond Metro community in this role.”

In her application, Jackie shared memories of her time at CMoR as a young child and how learning through play helped her become a successful student later in life. In her letters of recommendation, Jackie’s teacher and school counselor spoke highly of Jackie’s character and how well-respected she is as a leader by staff and students alike. They shared that Jackie continuously models ambition, respect, and kindness, and makes the world a better place just by being herself. These characteristics are essential to the Snow Ambassador role, and we are so honored to have Jackie fill this important position throughout 2023.

During her time with us, Jackie will continue to serve children and families who attend our monthly Special Nights, and will serve in a volunteer capacity at other special events and activities throughout the year. Jackie has already been an all-star volunteer, most recently at our Special Night last Friday.

We know Jackie has an incredibly bright future ahead of her and are so excited to be part of her journey!
