Each year, the Children’s Museum awards a $1,000 scholarship to a volunteer that has been active during the past year. This year’s winner is Samantha Espinoza!

Samantha just completed her senior year at Bowie High School and was a summer volunteer for the Children’s Museum in 2018 and 2019 during which time she contributed 222 hours of service.

While at the Museum, Samantha said her biggest motivation to volunteer was the children she got to interact with. She said “It was such a joy to see the faces of the children when they would get amazed by our exhibits!” While volunteering at the museum in 2019, Samantha was also working on an independent service project to create reusable feminine menstrual pads for homeless women in the DC area.

One life lesson Samantha learned through volunteering at the Children’s Museum was “to spread kindness and happiness no matter where you go… I always have a smile on my face. You are showing others that happiness can be a good habit to have.” She says that her advice to incoming volunteers (at the Children’s Museum and otherwise) is to be passionate about everything you do.
