About the Role
Step into the magic of a beloved Richmond holiday tradition!

Legendary Santa has been delighting Richmond families since 1936. It all started on the 7th floor of the historic Miller & Rhoads department store and now 25,000 children and family members head to the Children’s Museum of Richmond to continue, or start, their family tradition.

The Children’s Museum of Richmond is seeking a Legendary Santa Performer to bring joy, wonder, and holiday spirit to thousands of visitors this season. This seasonal position is responsible for spearheading the magic and enchantment of Legendary Santa, a role that requires warmth, dedication, flexibility, and a true passion for creating unforgettable experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entertain and engage visitors of all ages, creating a joyful and welcoming experience.
  • Pose for photos with guests, ensuring each interaction feels special and magical.
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality performances and maintain professional presentation (costume, wig, facial hair, makeup, and overall hygiene).
  • Collaborate with museum leadership and respond positively to feedback.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for all visitors.
  • Adhere to cleaning and maintenance protocols for Santa attire, accessories, wigs, and beards. *Please note facial hair will need to be completed shaved, including eyebrows.
  • Manage costumes, accessories, and assigned equipment responsibly.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the seasonal schedule.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience engaging audiences and creating memorable interactions.
  • High energy and enthusiasm for supporting rehearsals and performances.
  • Prior experience portraying Santa Claus preferred.
  • Experience working with children required.
  • Flexible availability throughout the holiday season.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, stoop, and safely “descend the chimney” multiple times daily.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, and depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, discern guest names via earpiece, and project a warm, clear speaking voice.
