General Information

What protocols and safety measures does the Museum have in place?

The Museum joins 21 Richmond-area cultural institutions on a set of shared values, protocols and safety measures. Please note that the Museum will continue to follow directives set by the Commonwealth of Virginia and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.

What are your operating hours?

Reservations for tickets are available Tuesday-Sunday. Reservations are not required, but are strongly encouraged.

I do not have a museum membership, can I still visit?

Yes. Click here to purchase tickets. Please note that tickets are available seven days in advance online. If you are planning to visit at a later date, please return to purchase your tickets online at a later time or plan to purchase tickets upon arrival at the front desk.

Will I have to wear a face mask?

Masks are strongly encouraged for staff and visitors, and will continue to be required for unvaccinated guests ages 5 and older.

Will the shop be open?

Yes.  The museum shops at both locations will be open during operating hours.

Can I still host my birthday party at the museum?

Are people who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms allowed in the museum?

No. If you or anyone in your group have experienced any of the following with or without aid from medication, please visit another day.

What types of payment will you accept at the museum?

While ticket reservation/purchasing is encouraged prior to your visit, you are able to purchase admission tickets, items from the shop, as well as carousel tickets at the front desk.  Contact-less purchases are strongly recommended; however, the Museum will accept cash as well.

Does a membership still provide unlimited visits at no cost?

Yes. However, members are encouraged to reserve their tickets prior to visiting the Museum.

I don’t have a membership, how do I purchase tickets?

What if I need help reserving/purchasing my timed ticket?

The Museum Team will be happy to assist you.  Please contact membership@childrensmuseumofrichmond.org or 804-474-7062.

Is there a limit on how many tickets I can reserve/purchase?

Members can reserve as many tickets as there are people on the membership. All ticket purchases/reservations are subject to limitations based on: 1) the available number of tickets for the day; and, 2) maintaining the Museum required ratio of 1 adult for every 5 children.

Can I give my reservation/purchase to someone else?

No. Ticket reservations/purchases are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Can I get my ticket in person?

Yes. However, visitors may reserve their tickets online prior to visiting the Museum.

What discounts are being offered?

Discounts will be offered for:

Single Admission and Playdate Passes issued by the Children’s Museum of Richmond will also be honored.

Food FAQs

Can I bring food and drink?

Yes. Food and drink is allowed at the Museum in designated areas.

Will food and drink be for sale?

Yes. Light snacks and drinks are back and for sale at the Museum.

Membership FAQs

Will my membership be extended because of the Museum closure?

Yes. We extended all memberships up to the full length of our closure (six months) depending on the date of purchase.

Can I renew my membership at the Museum?

Yes.  The Museum prefers you to purchase your membership online.  However, if you would like to purchase or renew in person, during your visit, we would be happy to accommodate.

Where can I find information needed to reserve my membership ticket online?

We have introduced digital membership cards through an app called Museum Anywhere. You can download the app for iOS and Android here.

How can I get the Museum Anywhere app?

  1. Visit the app store on your phone
  2. Search “Museum Anywhere” – the resulting app will say “eMembership Card”
  3. Download the app
  4. Search for the “Children’s Museum of Richmond” and you’ll find our logo (Children’s Museum with the red puzzle piece!)
  5. Click “Find My Membership Card”
  6. Enter your primary members’ last name and phone number to look up your specific card.

How do I reserve my tickets?

  1. Downloading the “Museum Anywhere” app gives you access to your Patron ID/membership number, which is required for reserving tickets (see above FAQ for directions on downloading the app).
  2. In the upper right-hand corner of the app, you’ll find a menu that allows you to “Reserve Tickets.”
  3. Click the date you are interested in attending, followed by the location.
  4. Click “login” next to “Member Adult.”
  5. If you have an account already in our e-store, login to continue booking your purchase.
  6. If you do not have an account in our e-store, click “member” and then enter your Patron ID (you can find it in the app under “Show Membership Card”).
  7. After you create/login to your account in the e-store, you can continue with reserving your tickets.

Cleaning FAQs

Are new cleaning procedures in place?

Yes. The following cleaning procedures are in place:

  • The Museum is adhering to all local government and CDC guidelines regarding health and sanitation.
  • The Museum is cleaned with an EPA approved disinfectant that is safe for children and is registered as an effective disinfectant against human coronavirus.
  • New manipulative cleaning rooms have been established where exhibit toys and props will be sanitized each day.
  • Cleaning wipes are available for families upon request.

Will hand sanitizer be available?

Yes. Hand sanitizing stations and handwashing stations will be available throughout the Museum.  Guests are strongly encouraged to use them as needed.

Museum Exploration FAQs

Is there stroller parking?

No. All guests need to keep personal items with them at all times.  Strollers are permitted but must accompany you through your visit.

Will outdoor space be available?

Yes. At the Museum’s Downtown location there are outdoor play areas available.

Will the Carousel be open?

Yes. The carousel is open, however everyone is strongly encouraged to purchase tickets before arriving. Remember all adults stand for free and it is wheelchair accessible!
