College Students and Recent Graduates:
If you are a college student or recent graduate seeking a program that will utilize your interests and skills, then the Children's Museum is the place for you! Here we will give you a chance to gain valuable experience in several areas in the non-profit industry.
Internships are available in all of our departments, so that you have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas:
The finance department is responsible for reconciling cash flow in and out of the museum. The intern will assist in the Accounts Payable department and will gain experience in non-profit accounting.
The art studio is a section of the museum that allows children to express their creativity and develop motor skills while making art projects to take home. The intern will work closely with the art studio coordinator on special projects and in workshops.
Data and Memberships
The data intern will be responsible for processing membership applications, generating reports in our membership database and assisting the database and information coordinator with day-to-day tasks.
The development department is responsible for fundraising for the museum’s annual fund and scholarship fund. The intern will assist the annual fund coordinator with fundraising projects, donor relationships, and administrative duties.
The education department is responsible for planning the classes and educational programs that the museum offers. The intern will assist the education coordinator with daily management of school field trips, camps, and other related programs and projects within the department.
The facilities and education departments are responsible for designing and maintaining exhibits. The intern will assist in cataloging exhibits and participating in design discussions.
The graphics department is responsible for protecting the Children's Museum brand by producing print and web materials, in keeping with the Children's Museum's visual identity. The intern will create printed materials and website graphics.
The guest services department is the face of the Children's Museum and is responsible for providing an enjoyable experience for guests in all areas of the museum. The intern will assist with monitoring the safety of children in the exhibit space, scheduling, and birthday party management.
Parenting and Outreach Services
The Commonwealth Parenting department is responsible for working with parents through outreach services. The intern will help facilitate parenting classes.
The Graphics Department is responsible for protecting the Children's Museum brand by producing print and web materials, in keeping with the Museum’s visual identity. The photography intern will take and edit photos for use by the Graphics Department.
The marketing department is responsible for increasing the awareness of the Children's Museum and increasing attendance. The intern will assist in planning and implementing off-site and special events.
The volunteer department is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers. The intern will assist in recruitment, placement, communications, training, supervision, record-keeping and special event staffing.
Hours are flexible based on the intern’s availability and vary between 10-20 hours a week.
