Behind Closed Doors

Our Response to COVID-19

While our doors temporarily closed on March 14, we have continued our mission of inspiring growth in all children by engaging families in learning through play! Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Book Distributions

Through the Children’s Museum Book Bank we have been able to donate over 13,000 books (and counting!) through meal distribution programs in Chesterfield County and the City of Richmond as well as through additional community partners.

Play Kits

We continue to partner with Sacred Heart Center & ExCELL to provide play kits for their families including STEM and The Basics themed resources in both English and Spanish.

Play Ahead Blog

Our Education & Marketing Teams have come together to provide content to keep families learning through play while they stay safe at home! The blog features art projects and activities like making an obstacle course at home! There are also plenty of resources for parents and caregivers on topics such as “Stress,” and “What Children Need.” New content is added regularly so keep checking back for more!

Behind the Scenes Maintenance

While we are sad to be closed we are choosing to see this as an opportunity to take care of some exhibit maintenance and make adjustments so that social distancing is possible when we reopen.

While the Children’s Museum’s doors are closed, we are still working hard to provide virtual learning opportunities for children and families, distribute books through our local school systems, and continue our partnerships for family engagement.

As a nonprofit organization, and the first cultural organization most children visit, we are grateful for our community’s support to make our work possible. We need you now more than ever. Your support ensures that bright future of the Children’s Museum and children in our community!
